Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling is a type of Cleaning.  It removes plaque and tartar from the teeth at and slightly below the gumline.  Root planing smooths root surfaces.  Supportive tissues can then reattach to the tooth surfaces. A local anesthetic may be used as this procedure goes deeper than a standard cleaning.
